Drive a Sustainable Earth by investing or purchasing items that support your environmental values.
Top 9 questions to ask yourself before you purchase an item;
1. Use your money to support purchases of items or companies that you believe in. Is it a sustainable or long term purchase, and do you support the Company’s values?
2. When you are about to purchase an item ask your self if this is something you will use for the long term and not a short-term disposable purchase?
3. Retailers have impulse items at the cash registers for you to buy. Think twice.
4. Buy local as much as possible. When you buy overseas merchandise, there is transport impact to our environment (Fuel usage due to Shipping by Boat or air plane, and diesel truck fuel impact).
5. If you are purchasing an item made out of plastic ask yourself if you really need it? Plastic never goes away, your plastic toys from childhood are still out there, maybe in a landfill.
6. Keep your receipt. If you have buyer’s remorse you can return the item, and the retailer can sell it again. This is a better result than a manufacturer making a new item, or your Buyer’s remorse purchase going into the trash.
7. Buy in bulk with less packaging then what your purchase would be by buying single items.
8. Question to consider in supporting a company before you purchase an item, is the product or packaging made out of recycled material? Just like you support non-profit companies because you agree with their mission or values, it should be no different in your purchases for your household. A company the uses recycled materials is a Win for Earth.
9. If you are about to purchase an appliance, tool, or vehicle is it the most energy efficient model? Does it use the least amount of gas? End goal is to make sure you are buying a model that has the least amount or zero greenhouse gases impacting the atmosphere.
