Use Reusable Bags instead of Plastic Bags. Plastic bags are the 2nd greatest form of plastic polluting our waterways. Plastic bags end up in sewers, blown on trees, and every other odd space you can think of. Plastic bags are nicknamed Urban Tumbleweeds for good reasons. Plastic does not decompose. It will be with us 100 years from now. It does break down into microplastics though. Fish mistake microplastics for food and consume them. So literally microplastics end up in our human food chain. Another option is to use no bag at all. I buy wine on the weekends. Every weekend the wine store would try to bag my bottle of wine. Just say no to the bag. It’s that simple. Plastic Bags are tough to recycle in most areas. plastic can only be recycled a finite number of times before it loses tensile strength and must finally be retired. Also, its expensive to recycle plastic bags. A lot of local governments wont recycle bags for those reasons. Most Grocery stores will recycle your bags though if your local government does not.
