Sustainability Tips for Toilets

Fix leaking toilets. Up to 200 gallons of water per year can be wasted on leaking toilets. A leaking toilet is when a toilet keeps running after you have flushed it. Your water bill will be more expensive if not addressed.

Old toilets can generate up to 3 gallons of water per flush. New toilets generate on average 1 gallon of water per flush. Some toilets that you purchase now have a 1 and 2 option button you can press depending on how much water you think you will need to flush the toilet. When it’s time to purchase a new toilet, make sure you purchase one that uses the least amount of water with low flush volumes. This will also save on your water bill.

If you have an older toilet a way to reduce water flow per flush is by adding a full water bottle in the cistern, or buy a toilet tank displacement device, which is designed for this same purpose. This device will save 1300 gallons of water per year, and also save you money on your water bill.

Heated Toilet Seats – The heat is generated through electricity which will generate greenhouse gases that will impact the environment. Stay humble and avoid this unnecessary luxury.
