Steel Fencing on Water Drains. Why it's important.
Blue Knights of the Earth is pushing for local and state governments to add this steel fencing in our storm water drains. Most trash that goes into the sewer system goes directly to a creek, bay or river, and in most cases ends up in the ocean. Storm drains are used for taking rain water directly to waterways including rivers and oceans to prevent flooding on the streets. Many people do not understand this, they think that trash is collected at a sewage facility, this is rarely the case. This is a very important reason why we need to educate others, stop polluting, and cover our trashcans with lids. Plastic that ends up in the ocean never leaves. Plastic does not decompose. It will be with us 100s of years from now. It does break down into microplastics though. Fish mistake these microplastics for food and consume them. So literally microplastics end up in our human food chain as we eat fish from the ocean.
